Meet The Team
Co-founder & Owner
Hayden spent 10 years hanging from trees in North London wielding a chainsaw (in an official capacity as a tree surgeon!) He also spent 5 years working and studying in his parental home of New Zealand and thinks this qualifies him to know all about Flat Whites! When not in the shop he can be found cycling around the Dales.

Ruth worked directly with coffee and tea growers for 5 years, and has visited growers in Kenya. In her spare time Ruth studies and teaches Kung Fu, and has spent time in China training with Masters, eating unusual and wonderful food and drinking great tea! Ruth came 3rd in the inaugural UK Tea Brewers Cup in 2015.
Lenka joined Bean & Bud in 2011, and keeps us all organised! Originally from Slovakia, Lenka speaks 5 languages and represented her town at basketball. In 2014 Lenka came 2nd of 20 competitors in a latte art throwdown organised by North Star Roasters in Leeds.
John joined Bean & Bud in October 2015, having previously worked as a barista for two years. John is a dedicated musician and has played around Europe and the UK including performances at Glastonbury. He can also sometimes be found running through muddy fields and rivers for charity. John has recently taken over responsibility for coffee buying.
Jana joined us in June 2017. Originally from Slovakia, Jana represented her school at rifle shooting! She has travelled extensively, including visiting tea plantations in Sri Lanka and encountering orangutans and sun bears in Borneo. With experience in bar management, Jana has loved exchanging fine spirits for great coffee!
Leah joined us in March 2015 as a part time coffee shop assistant, and her passion and commitment resulted in her moving up to train as a barista. She particularly enjoys making slow brewed coffees and has developed a love for fine tea. She has recently achieved a pass in the SCAE Intermediate Barista Skills training.
Adam joined us in December 2016. Having completed his first year at Trent University Adam decided to take some time out to experience the world of work. In his spare time Adam is a keen drummer, and also loves cycling and boarding of both the skate and snow varieties. He has recently achieved a pass in the SCAE Intermediate Barista Skills training.
