Meet The Team

Co-founder & Owner

Hayden spent 10 years hanging from trees in North London wielding a chainsaw (in an official capacity as a tree surgeon!) He also spent 5 years working and studying in his parental home of New Zealand and thinks this qualifies him to know all about Flat Whites (and sarongs)!

Co-founder & Owner

Ruth worked with coffee and tea growers for 5 years, and has visited growers in Kenya.  Ruth studies Kung Fu, and has spent time in China training with Masters, eating unusual and wonderful food and drinking great tea!  Ruth came 3rd in the inaugural UK Tea Brewers Cup in 2015.

Head Barista

Lenka joined Bean & Bud in 2011. Originally from Slovakia, Lenka speaks 5 languages and represented her town at basketball. In 2014 Lenka came 2nd of 20 competitors in a latte art throwdown organised by North Star Roasters in Leeds.

Senior Barista

John joined Bean & Bud in October 2015, having previously worked as a barista for two years. John is a dedicated musician and has played around Europe and the UK including performances at Glastonbury. He can also sometimes be found running through muddy fields and rivers for charity.

Emilie joined us as a full-time Barista in November 2016.  She spent time training in Musical Theatre and dance, but recently traded in her ballet shoes for boxing gloves and has one to one instruction. She is also half French and recently became registered as a French citizen living abroad.

Leah joined us in March 2015 as a part time coffee shop assistant, and her passion and commitment resulted in her moving up to train as a barista.  She particularly enjoys making slow brewed coffees and has developed a love for fine tea.  Leah is in her last year of A Levels.

Adam joined us in December 2016.  Having completed his first year at Trent University Adam decided to take some time out to experience the world of work.  In his spare time Adam is a keen drummer, and also loves boarding of the skate and snow variety.

The tea here is sublime and the baristering is the best in Harrogate.
Bean & Bud is so inviting – the colours, the artwork and the welcome from the staff, it’s a place to take ten minutes out of the world and enjoy a fantastic cup of coffee.
Lovely people, a great welcome and great music – and of course Bean & Bud serves the best cup of coffee in town!
I like the fact that they tell you about the new products in layman’s terms, - coffee isn’t made to be complicated, there’s simply a real passion here for trying new blends.
The quality of the coffee, served by genuinely nice people, – it’s what a true independent business is all about.
The knowledge of the baristas is phenomenal and they are happy to take the time and effort to explain every product.
Bean & Bud has made speciality coffee very accessible – they have a fantastic range.
What I love about Bean & Bud is the zero pretention. It’s welcoming and friendly, yet so forward thinking.
They have a very creative way of introducing guest coffees.
